Even in the summer months, the weather does not always cooperate and sometimes it’s hard to figure out what you can do indoors that is close to home. This post is here to help you find an indoor activity you can try that is close by. I’ve had a lot of messages and requests for indoor activities for kids in and around Indy’s south side since the blog launched-- so here we go! These activities are based on my experiences with my two boys. (3.5 years and 7 months) Some of these activities are free while others may have a small cost. All the info will be shared below!

The Greenwood Community Center - Kid City
100 Surina Way, Greenwood, IN 46143
Kid City is a two story children’s play space that offers STEAM-focused play features and so much more. The cost is $5 per child over the age of 1 and parents are free. This location is very stroller friendly, an elevator is available to use between both floors. There are play areas for bigger kids as well as smaller kids. There is a life size Light-Brite, a life size play store based on Kroger, a play kitchen, and more. There is a smaller climbing structure for babies - toddlers and a larger two story climbing structure for toddlers - elementary ages kids. They also have multiple areas for parents to sit. I was able to nurse my youngest while watching my older one play. My recommendation is to bring your kids either as soon as they open or between 2-3pm. These seemed to be the least busy times in my personal experience.

Greenwood Public Library or Johnson County Library Locations
Both the Greenwood Public Library and Johnson County Library events are shared to the IN List Weekly blog posts each week– so you can always check there to see what is happening at the library closest to you. The Greenwood Public Library has a great play space both my boys can enjoy. I have also shared a blog post on everything at the Greenwood Public Library HERE. We have visited the library all different times of the day and I know finding the least busy time is ideal for a lot of parents. We always try to go during that “afternoon nap time” that my 3 year old finally dropped, so 1-2pm worked best for us. During the summer there are a lot more kids during the day, so this time may still be busy!
Greenwood Hours:
Monday: - Thursday: 9am-8pm.
Friday & Saturday: 10am-5pm.

The Commons - Columbus Indiana
300 W Washington St. Columbus, IN
This indoor playground is FREE and is less than 40 minutes from the Southside of Greenwood. There was plenty of equipment here for my 3 year old to not get bored– 3 story climbing structure, tunnels, slides, and more. This place would probably be great for kids 12 and under from my personal experience. I was also able to bring my youngest (at the time 6 months) and was able to lay out a blanket for him to play on while I watched his brother play on the equipment. Keeping up In Carmel shared an awesome blog post that included two local places to grab a bite while you visit The Commons in Columbus, IN here. My recommendation is to arrive as soon as they open, because they do get busy quickly.
